Internet Service Provider core hub site for SBC, Irvine CA. - Included the design and construction management of the retrofit of an existing 300,000 square foot warehouse into 40,000 square feet of cage servers, 10,000 SF of IO, 8,000 SF. Site is served with full power and communications redundancy, emergency power, FM 200 throughout.

  • Cell site design, permitting and installation for various wireless providers throughout California - Included the design and construction management of the retrofit of existing Commercial sites. Each site is served with full power and communications redundancy, emergency power and specialized fire protection.

Included the design and construction management of several state of the art main frame systems.   • Central Energy Plants & Thermal Storage Cogeneration Plant installation for the Orange County Register, Santa Ana, CA, - Includes the design and installation of a 3.6 MW, 2-generator system in a new generation building. Included is the installation of parallel power transmission with SCE. Also included is the design and installation of an absorption chiller system to make use of waste heat. Mr. Spence is the Project Manager for this project presently starting construction. Mr. Spence also managed the SCAQMD air permits and negotiated the purchase of ERC's for air emissions offsets.

Included is the installation of parallel power transmission with SCE. Mr. Spence was the Project Manager for this project.   • Chiller Plant Expansion, for UCLA, Los Angeles, CA, - Includes the addition of a 10,000 ton three cell-cooling tower with water basins on the roof of an existing chiller building. Mr. Spence is the Project Manager and Manager of Engineering for this capacity increase. The project also includes the review and evaluation of the DDC Plant Control System for possible upgrade.

  • Thermal Storage Tank, for UCLA, Los Angeles, CA, - This project involves an underground concrete tank with 20,000 ton hours of chilled water-cooling. The tank provides a 3,600 tons per hour stratified chilled water capacity and a structural support for an auditorium building. The design also includes the design for a shoring system and will use redundant chillers for sub cooling.

  • Central Energy Plant installation for the Orange County Register, Santa Ana, CA, - Includes the design and installation of a 1350 ton, 3-chiller plant with cooling towers and hot water boilers in a new central plant building. Also included was the design and installation of the hot and chilled water distribution systems, digital control system and the retrofit of DX Air Handlers with new chilled water units. Mr. Spence was the Project Manager and Manager of Engineering for this project.

  • Central Distribution System Analysis, for San Diego State University, San Diego, CA; as Director of Mechanical Engineering, prepared energy and flow models for expansion of the campus through year 2005. Analysis of the best utility system combinations of steam, hot water and chilled water was performed. In addition, analysis was performed for self-generated options at the new campus.

  • Central Plant installation for Baxter Co., Los Angeles, CA, as Project Manager provided engineering and design of the retrofit of Rooftop Units with a new 2000 ton central chilling plant and new HVAC for classified areas. The project included new electrical distribution and controls. The project included using CGMP compliance and involved production coordination and limited or no production shutdowns.

  • Chiller & Thermal Energy Storage Replacement, for Orange Coast College, Costa Mesa, CA; as Manager of Mechanical Engineering, project included replacement of the existing chiller and Eutectic Salt Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system with a smaller more energy efficient chiller and increased Eutectic Salt TES system. New TES system served an auditorium and music center and was designed to interface with campus energy management system.

  • Chiller Replacement, for San Diego State University, San Diego, CA; Manager of Mechanical Engineering, prepared energy models for future campus buildings, superimposed the new facilities models onto various chilled water distribution system configurations. Following the evaluation, the complete chiller design and construction documents for bidding were completed. Bidding process assistance and construction support were also provided.
